Doug Crawford and Equity Residential's Final Word On Town Square Shuttle Delays
  • The following is an email conversation I had with Doug a few weeks ago. In a nutshell, Doug and Equity Residential will do nothing to resolve the evening shuttle delays at Town Square. This is extremely disappointing, since the shuttle to and from the Metro makes it possible for hundreds of Town Square residents to commute to and from DC during the week. Without reliable shuttle service, the value Town Square offers current residents (and potential residents) is severely diminished. I wouldn't even mind a slight rent increase or monthly surcharge to cover increase fuel costs if it translated into reliable shuttle service.Am I the only one here who sees this as a problem?

Here is the email chain, organized chronologically:

I was unable to board the shuttle at 6:00 PM yesterday because it was full. I had to take a taxi home. The afternoon shuttle is regularly full, late or doesn't come at all. The morning shuttle is also often full, and I've already had to alter my work schedule to accommodate it. These problems have been getting worse since I brought them to your attention more than a year ago.

    Curtis,

When has the shuttle not shown up? I am sorry that you were unable to catch the shuttle yesterday and I understand your frustration but we will not be making adjustments to the shuttle.

I did catch the shuttle yesterday, but I had to exit due to lack of sufficient seating. For the past month, the 6:30 shuttle has "no-showed" at least once a week. I've spoken to Ramjay about this on each occasion, and they should be able to provide you with an accurate estimate.

I'm not asking for a fleet of luxury tour busses, but I am asking you to put some plan in place to address the increasing frequency of shuttle service failures.

Would it help you reconsider Equity's position if you were presented with a petition signed by the residents who use the shuttle? I know I'm not the only one who has a problem with this, even if I am more vocal.

Ignoring this problem and dismissing it out of hand isn't going to make it go away.

    Curtis,

I have spoken to to Ramjay and logistically there is not a way that we can have a bus on standby for overflow unless we contract a second bus full time. Secondly if the first bus is being affected by traffic the second bus would be affected as well.  There is no way to pre-determine what days there may be back ups or resident overflow. I understand your frustration and I appreciate your feedback. Have a good day.
